How To Achieve Smokey Eye Make up

The smokey eye is known for being a lot of things: sexy, celebrity-adored, and really time-consuming. Sometimes it feels like seamlessly blending all those shadows together is more of a marathon Or at least, it was until now.

Here is an incredibly easy smokey eye tutorial that takes less than 10 minutes. Believe it or not, all you need is two products and a few common tools.

The Supplies:
Forget the shadow. You can get smokey eye makeup by just applying eyeliner in the right way. You’ll need a black, chocolate brown, or dark gray kohl eye pencil. And to prevent smudges, stay away from those cream-based formulas. Use a pencil that is slightly harder in consistency verses one that is soft and creamy. The soft pencils break down a lot and will smudge more.

You’ll also need to stock up on a mascara, Q-tips, an eye shadow brush, and your fingers.

How to Get It:
First, line the lower and upper waterline with your pencil, squeezing your eyes shut afterwards for about 5 seconds. Then line your top lash line above the lashes. Repeat the same for the bottom. Be sure to keep the liner very close to the lash line, as anything below it could look like dark circles.

Next, use your fingertip to smudge the lower and upper lash lines in small, light strokes. If it’s messy, we suggest using a Q-Tip to soften and tidy-up the look. Finish it off with a few coats of mascara, which will give final definition and intensity to the eyes.

Set the look (and reduce the chance of smudging later on) by dipping your eye shadow brush in a translucent powder and brushing over top the liner.

No multi-hue palette of eye shadow, no 15-piece makeup brush kit.  Now that’s a smokey eye tutorial we can vouch for.
