Western Fashion Trends That Originates From Africa

 

African fashion trends has found it way to the spotlights of the western culture. Recently some fashion trends that got the world talking are being inspired by already existing African fashion. Of the many, few fashion trends did stand out thus the dashiki,the ankara , and the ‘ghana must go’.

 Dashiki

No to long ago, the world has its moments if dashiki craze. The dashiki fabric became a must have for all especially when Amandla Stenberg, Chris Brown, Zendaya, Rihanna, Jhené Aiko and Beyoncé wearing it. The dashiki  is a colorful garment worn in West Africa and some other parts of Africa. A common form is a loose-fitting pullover garment, with an ornate V-shaped collar, and tailored and embroidered neck and sleeve lines.

 

Ankara

African print, popularly known as Ankara, has gained popularity in the global fashion scene since 2010. The material is primarily associated with Africa mainly because of the tribal-like patterns and motifs. It’s not a print peculiar to Africans alone but to Hollywood actors, hip pop artist,and  politicians. Renowned celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Michelle Obama and Rihanna have been spotted wearing Ankara Prints.

 

The ‘ghana must go ‘

Ghana must go bags”, a large and deep bag characterized by its chequered appearance. The name of the bag dates back to the 1970’s where Ghanaians were being deported from Nigeria. Fashion legend Louis Vuittion brought back these ridiculed bags in style. From garments sewn with the fabric to bags to match. This fashion trend made the news  in style.
