Orange Culture x The Folklore Launch African Designer Mentorship Contest

The Folklore and Orange Mentorship, the educational arm of Nigerian menswear brand Orange Culture, have partnered to launch a contest that will empower future African fashion designers to share their talent with the world. The contest was announced to the public, Wednesday, September 16 and applications will start to be accepted Monday, September 21st.

The Winner will receive a grant to assist with designing their winning designs, a one-year mentorship with Orange Culture’s Founder, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, and designs will be exclusively sold on The Folklore.

The Folklore is an NYC-based online concept store and wholesale showroom that exclusively distributes luxury and emerging designer brands from Africa.

How to Apply?

In order to qualify, all participants must submit three sketches along with a 150-word description of the three designs.

The description should include details about fabric, inspiration, and any unique product elements.

Participants are also required to follow social media handles – Orange Mentorship, The Folklore, and Nataal in order to have a valid entry.

All submissions must be submitted by Sunday, October 4th. Once the competition is closed, The Folklore will showcase all entries on their site for public voting on Monday, October 5th until Sunday, October 18th.

The crowd favorites will then move to the semi-finals where the Orange Mentorship and The Folklore team will review the finalist and select a winner. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 3rd on social media.

 

About Orange Mentorship

Orange mentorship is an educational platform started by Orange Culture Creative Director, Adebayo Oke-Lawal. It launched due to a passion for Adebayo to see the fashion industry’s local Nigerian supply chain develop.

The mentorship programs are both physical and digital and have included mentorship sessions from some of Nigeria’s brightest fashion talents.
