Tokyo James: Redefining Contemporary Luxury Between London and Lagos

Founded in 2015 by British Nigerian designer Iniye Tokyo James, Tokyo James is a contemporary luxury label operating between London and Lagos. The brand combines Savile Row inspired tailoring with bold textures, fluid silhouettes, and a distinct African perspective, creating a modern approach to luxury that feels both refined and expressive.

Before launching his label, James studied mathematics in London before moving into fashion, working as a stylist and digital campaign director for brands including Brioni and Puma. His creative career also includes serving as editor in chief of MADE magazine and launching Rough UK, experiences that helped shape his understanding of fashion, culture, and visual storytelling.

Today, Tokyo James is recognised for its experimental approach to tailoring, gender fluid design, and cultural expression. James was named a semifinalist for the 2022 LVMH Prize, further highlighting the growing international recognition of his work. Through the label, he continues to create a meeting point between African identity and global luxury, challenging traditional ideas of menswear while contributing to Africa’s evolving fashion landscape.
