Tommy Hilfiger will return to NYFW for his Spring 2025 show on September 8. This year’s show will be held aboard the MV John F. Kennedy, a decommissioned ferry permanently docked.
Initially, Hilfiger was not included in the official CFDA schedule released last week. New York Fashion Week runs from September 6 to 11.
“New York City is the birthplace of the American dream, and the Staten Island Ferry represents the gateway to self-expression for so many throughout history,”
Hilfiger stated, “By hosting this year’s show aboard the MV John F. Kennedy, we will celebrate this quintessential New York City landmark while firmly writing our nautical-inspired codes into the vessel’s iconic legacy.”
Last February, Hilfiger made a splash at NYFW with a highly publicized show at Grand Central’s Oyster Bar, featuring Questlove as the DJ and Jon Batiste during the finale. He transformed the restaurant into “The Tommy” club for the night, branding his show as “A New York Moment.” Prior to that, his last NYFW show was in September 2022, when he created the “Tommy Factory” during a rain-soaked evening at Brooklyn’s Skyline Drive-in.
The ferry, named after John F. Kennedy, shuttled commuters between Manhattan and Staten Island from 1965 until its retirement in August 2021. After being moored at St. George Terminal, it was sold at auction on January 19, 2022, for $280,000 to a group that includes Paul Italia, Ron Costellano, and Staten Island natives Colin Jost and Pete Davidson. The new owners plan to convert the ferry into an entertainment venue with a budget of $34 million.
According to Hilfiger’s team, the ferry, with its original interiors still intact, “will become the perfect stage” for the show. The event will mark a farewell to the ferry’s past while celebrating its transformation into a comedy club and future city icon, blending nostalgia with contemporary fashion under the new ownership of Davidson and Jost.
Hilfiger’s upcoming show will align with the traditional fashion calendar and will no longer follow the “see now, buy now” model that he utilized for several years.
The preliminary official NYFW schedule features over 60 confirmed runway shows and designer presentations, with additional collections being showcased digitally and by appointment. Other designers showing during NYFW include Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, Khaite, Jason Wu, Sergio Hudson, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Brandon Maxwell, and LaQuan Smith.
Ralph Lauren will present his Spring fashion show in East Hampton, N.Y., on September 5, while Proenza Schouler will showcase on September 4. On Hilfiger’s date, September 8, other designers such as Ulla Johnson, PHS, Off-White, Jason Wu Collection, Sandy Liang, Bach Mai, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Eckhaus Latta will also present their collections.
