Maria Borges was born in Angola in 1992, during the civil war which ravaged the country until 2005. “I have no memories of this murderous conflict. I went to school in a religious institution run by Portuguese sisters. I wore a uniform – navy blue pleated skirt, white blouse, white socks – and already my afro micro-cup. I was happy.
