The British Fashion Council has announced its 2024 New Wave: Creatives, highlighting 50 young talents in various fashion categories.
These individuals will be celebrated at the Fashion Awards 2024 on December 2 at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
The final 50 will be celebrated as part of The Fashion Awards (TFA) 2024 on December 2 at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
TFA, organised by the BFC, is the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation and celebrates the role of fashion at the intersection of culture and entertainment, spotlighting creative talent and telling the stories of the year in fashion through the lens of purpose, excellence, and creativity.
The dynamic list includes 10 young Black Creatives from the African continent and globally:
Photographer: Casper Kofi
Casper Kofi is a Dutch-Ghanaian photographer renowned for his use of portraiture and fashion to delve into contemporary representations of predominantly male identity. His work features diverse, intimate glimpses into the lives of his subjects, often infused with nostalgic aesthetics that blend personal experiences with theatrical elements. By experimenting with color and light in both studio and outdoor settings, Kofi creates portraits that evoke feelings of longing and nostalgia, reflecting his romanticized ideas of identity and beauty. His collaborations with models, friends, and locals have been published in prestigious magazines such as Dazed, Fantastic Man, French Vogue, Vogue US, Dust, and WSJ Magazine. Kofi has also worked with high-profile brands including Dior, Louis Vuitton, Wales Bonner, Giorgio Armani, and Versace.
Multidisciplinary Artist, Director & Image Maker: Christian Saint
Christian Saint is a Ghanaian multidisciplinary artist, film director, and creative producer whose work is profoundly influenced by African imagery and the continent’s rich storytelling traditions. He believes that Africans are the guardians of their own history and is committed to addressing misrepresentation in media and creative industries. Over his career, he has collaborated with a variety of renowned brands and artists, including Beats by Dre, Apple, Roc Nation, Atlantic Records UK, Trapstar London, Daily Paper, Rema, and many more. His diverse portfolio reflects his dedication to showcasing authentic African narratives and aesthetics. In addition to brand work, Saint has partnered with influential media outlets such as GQ, Complex, Hypebeast Arabia, OKAY Africa, and The FADER. His recent exhibition, “Strands and Structures,” examines Ghana’s environmental issues through the lens of hairstyles and was showcased in both Accra and Toronto. Christian Saint continually pushes the boundaries of the creative industry, using his platform to elevate African stories and challenge stereotypes.
Stylist: Feranmi Eso
Feranmi Eso is a stylist and image maker based in London, known for his exploration of the fine line between challenging norms and embracing creative freedom. With a mischievous touch, Eso brings a sly yet empowering and playful energy to his work. His styling has been featured in publications such as Double, Replica Man, Dazed, and Altered States. Additionally, he merges his ideas with music and art, collaborating with musicians like Kelela, Suutoo, and LSDXOXO, and designing costumes for performances at Roskilde Festival and Art Basel.
Stylist & Image Maker: Juajose Mouko Nsue
Juajose Mouko Nsue is an Equatorial Guinean fashion stylist based in London, drawing inspiration from surrealism, Spanish culture, and London’s street style. He has worked as an assistant to prominent stylist Ib Kamara and has contributed to notable publications such as CR Fashion Book, Vogue Italy, and Altered States.
Image Maker & Filmmaker: Jude Lartey
Jude Lartey is a self-taught image maker and filmmaker from Ghana who has gained acclaim for his exceptional talent at a young age. His work explores themes of masculinity and community, utilizing fashion as a narrative medium, as demonstrated in his campaign for Converse. Lartey creates cinematic worlds in his home studio, crafting sets and selecting muses that bring his imaginative concepts to life. His documentary-style approach has shed light on his homeland, culminating in his debut solo show,
“Land of the Morees,”
which meticulously documents the daily lives of a small fishing community. Inspired by his childhood experiences along Ghana’s coastline, Lartey’s unique vision is redefining cultural narratives and earning him recognition from esteemed brands and publications like The Guardian, GQ, Adidas, Dazed, and Vogue.
Hairstylist: Mideyah Parker
Mideyah Parker is a freelance hairstylist based in New York City, having graduated from the Aveda Institute in Tallahassee, Florida. After honing her skills in Atlanta, she transitioned to New York to pursue her dream of working in TV, film, and fashion. In the city, she collaborated with industry legends such as Ted Gibson, Chuckie Amos, and Jimmy Paul before joining Guido Palau’s main team, where she further refined her craft. Parker’s work encompasses a variety of hair types and textures, keeping her updated with the latest trends through hands-on experience. She has styled for celebrities like Natasha Lyonne and Tracee Ellis Ross and has served as a hairstylist ambassador for Pattern Beauty. Her work has been featured in American Vogue, British Vogue, WSJ, i-D Magazine, WWD, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar, and The Cut, including covers for Vogue Netherlands and Document Journal. Parker has also styled for major fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, leading presentations for Johnathan Cohen and Collina Strada.
Stylist & Consultant: Rudy Simba Betty
Rudy Simba Betty is a French stylist and consultant born in Congo, currently based between Paris and London. He began his fashion journey studying Fashion Journalism at Central St Martins after transitioning from Translation and Interpreting Studies. He gained experience through internships at 1883, TANK, 10 Magazine, and LOVE Magazine, where he assisted fashion director Anders Thomsen. He has styled shoots for Vogue Japan, Self Service, Vogue Arabia, and Elle, while also working with talents and celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Dina Asher-Smith, Kai Isaiah Jamal, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. His client list includes brands such as Boucheron, Gucci, Ami, Nike, and MTV.
Hairstylist: Sondrea Demry-Sanders
Sondrea Demry-Sanders is an emerging hairstylist based in Brooklyn, NY. Known for her bold vision and dynamic creativity, she has quickly established herself in the industry, earning features in Vogue, Elle, GQ, and The Cut. Sondrea’s ability to craft innovative and timeless looks seamlessly merges high fashion with street style, positioning her as one of the industry’s most sought-after session stylists. With a passion for pushing boundaries and an eye for detail, she is poised to become a legendary figure in hairstyling.
Stylist/Consultant/DJ: Milton Dixon III
Milton Dixon III is part of a new generation of creatives making waves in the fashion and beauty industry. Originally from South Florida, he moved to New York to kickstart his career at Interview and Vogue magazines. In 2018, he trained under the guidance of industry icon Alastair McKimm, gaining invaluable experience on top editorials, advertisements, and runway shows. Today, Milton collaborates with major brands such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Gucci, and Zara, while also consulting on creative projects, international music tours, and philanthropic endeavors. He is a partner in the Brooklyn-based DJ collective, Mecca NYC.
Makeup Artist & Hairstylist: Mika Sarfo
Mika Sarfo is a Brazilian-born beauty artist and hairstylist, who was inspired by her mother’s beauty salon in their home. This early exposure ignited her passion for aesthetics and creativity. Mika’s work is deeply rooted in Brazilian popular culture, blending folkloric elements with contemporary styles to reflect her rich heritage. She has collaborated with brands and designers, creating campaigns and editorials for renowned names such as Comme des Garçons and Dior. Early in her career, Mika worked with British publications like i-D, Double Magazine, and Dazed, with her creations also gracing the covers of Vogue and Elle.
