The 15th edition of Dak’Art: Biennale of Contemporary African Art is set to take place and is curated around the theme “The Wake”. Under the artistic direction of Salimata Diop, Dak’Art 2024 will explore the relationship between art, society, climate and history, particularly in the context of Dakar.
Calling for an awakening to the world’s social and environmental crisis, the Biennale positions artists as the drivers of a new global narrative.
Fifty-eight (58) artists from Africa and the Diaspora have been selected for the international exhibition. The international exhibition will be structured around the theme of this edition in an immersive journey, thanks to an intimate, narrative and serious scenography.
This selection incorporates extraordinary African creativity, diverse media, techniques and artistic universes. From drawing to virtual reality, sound, sculpture and even photography, the selection process for the international exhibition was guided by a commitment to inclusion, the search for a balance that transcends borders and celebrates the rich tapestry of artistic voices.
Artists from the African diaspora will bring their experiences as Africans and people of African descent to the world and socialise with artists who live and work on the African continent.
Dak’Art 2024 will consist of multiple exhibitions held in various locations in Dakar.
The Musée des Civilisations Noires will present a showcase of national pavilions, the Maison de la Culture Douta Seck and the Galerie nationale d’art will host fine arts exhibitions, with a section dedicated to design at the Ndary Lo space in the Old Courthouse.
