Gucci Appoints Davide Buzzoni as Global Communications Director

Davide Buzzoni is appointed as Gucci’s new global communications director. Alessio Vannetti will be his direct supervisor, holding the positions of EVP and CBO.

Buzzoni joins Gucci from Loro Piana, where he was the head of global PR and VIP relations. His impressive career also includes roles at Moncler, Prada Group, and Burberry.

With his extensive background in luxury, Buzzoni will oversee global press office activities and corporate communications, ensuring a cohesive narrative that aligns with Gucci’s values and vision.

He takes over from Benjamin Cercio, who served as Gucci’s senior vice president of global communications until March. Cercio had joined Gucci in November 2022 after a lengthy career at Louis Vuitton, where he rose to become the international director of press, influencer, and entertainment.

In May, Gucci’s parent company, Kering, appointed Stefano Cantino, a communications executive from Louis Vuitton, as the new deputy chief executive officer of Gucci. He will work closely with Jean-François Palus, Gucci’s CEO, and Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s deputy CEO in charge of brand development.

This trio of executives is tasked with steering Kering’s most significant and profitable brand back toward growth under creative director Sabato De Sarno, who succeeded Alessandro Michele. De Sarno’s arrival coincided with a slowdown in luxury spending.

In July, Kering reported that Gucci’s performance fell short of expectations, with organic sales down 19 percent in the second quarter, compared to analysts’ predictions of a 17 percent decline. Reported revenues also dropped by 20 percent to 2 billion euros. Management is now pinning its hopes on the launch of four new handbag lines in September, along with a collection of ready-to-wear essentials based on De Sarno’s most successful designs, aiming for a shorter time to market and streamlined distribution.
