Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez depart as creative directors of Proenza Schouler.

Looks like Proenza Schouler is getting new creative directors, as Jack and Lazaro are moving on.

This decision marks the end of an era for the brand, which they founded in 2002 after graduating from Parsons the New School of Design.

The duo will officially leave their roles on January 31st, although they will continue to be involved with the company as board members and minority stakeholders.

McCollough and Hernandez have been instrumental in shaping Proenza Schouler into a prominent figure in the fashion world. Their journey began when they met while studying at Parsons, and they quickly gained recognition for their innovative designs. The brand’s rise to fame was further solidified with the launch of the PS-1 satchel in 2008, which became a beloved accessory among fashion enthusiasts. Over the years, they have won numerous awards, including five CFDA Awards, highlighting their contributions to both accessory and womenswear design.

The decision to step down comes after a period of contemplation, with the duo reportedly considering new ventures following Proenza Schouler’s 20th anniversary in 2022. The brand’s recent appointment of Shira Suveyke Snyder as CEO in October was partly aimed at facilitating this transition. Despite the stability of the brand and the relatively young age of the designers, their departure is seen as a strategic move that could set a new trend in career trajectories for fashion creatives.

Speculation is rife about the duo’s future plans, with rumors suggesting they might be in line to take over creative responsibilities at Loewe, the Spanish fashion house owned by LVMH. This move would potentially see them succeed Jonathan Anderson, who has been linked to a role at Dior. However, these rumors remain unconfirmed, and neither Proenza Schouler nor Loewe has commented on the matter.

Proenza Schouler is now embarking on a search for new creative directors to build upon the brand’s legacy. The company remains committed to innovation and excellence, indicating a bright future ahead despite the change in leadership.
