KANYE WEST has revealed that he’s no longer going to collaborate with other fashion brands on fashion projects anymore. This has come on the back of his recent scuffle with Adidas.
The Donda rapper revealed during an interview with Bloomberg that he has made the decision to distribute his upcoming fashion initiatives independently of other businesses.
Kanye has previously worked with Gap in addition to sports juggernauts Adidas and Nike.
According to Kanye, “It’s time for me to go it alone. It’s fine. I made the companies money. The companies made me money. We created ideas that will change apparel forever.”
The round jacket, the foam runner, and the slides that altered the shoe industry were among the concepts he highlighted as having altered the fashion industry.
However, Kanye argued that this is no longer sufficient. “Now it’s time for Ye to make the new industry. No more companies standing in between me and the audience,” he said.
Back in June, Ye called out Kasper Rørsted, the CEO of Adidas “blatant copying” of the Yeezy slide designs. This was after Adidas released Adilette 22 sandals, footwear that has a similar design and color as the Yeezy Slides.
“No one should be held in that position where people can steal from them and say we’re just paying you to shut up… That destroys innovation. That destroys creativity. That’s what destroyed Nikola Tesla.”
According to Bloomberg, Kanye has plans of establishing Donda “campuses” in the US. These “campuses” house stores, schools, farms, and dormitories. Yeezy staff will then create the goods that are sold on these campuses.
