Nigerian art director Magapls released latest project ‘sorayama’, Inspired by the legendary Hajime Sorayama.
This project is a fusion of his signature metallic sensuality and an Afro retro-futuristic vision.
These images were direct reference to Sorayama’s iconic paintings, reimagining his hyper-stylized, dreamlike figures through an Afrofuturist lens. Blending nostalgia with futurism, Magapls explores how chrome bodies, vintage aesthetics, and deep melanin tones coexist.
The shoot plays with light, reflections, and textures, creating an atmosphere that feels cinematic. Through Sorayama, Magapls recontextualize the fantasy of perfection, power, and beauty within an African narrative.
