Michael Kors successfully rounded out New York Fashion Week by emphasizing comfort without sacrificing style.
The show, held at Terminal Warehouse in West Chelsea, was a testament to the designer’s ability to blend ease with sophistication.
The venue itself was transformed into a cozy space reminiscent of Kors’ own living room, complete with exposed brick and wooden accents, art pieces, and household items adorning the runway benche.
The collection featured an array of monochromatic looks in soothing tones such as black, chocolate, graphite, bottle-green, and aubergine. These plush garments were designed to provide warmth without requiring much effort in styling a concept Kors referred to as “dégagé chic”. Models walked down an extended dual-aisled runway with minimal makeup and natural hairstyles that complemented the relaxed vibe of the clothing
Kors drew inspiration from vintage fashion icons like Lauren Hutton from the 1970s as well as contemporary street style figures like Zoe Kravitz. He emphasized layering as a key element in his designs, pairing silk dresses under oversized blazers or throwing on casual jackets over flowing skirts. This approach allowed for fluid movement while maintaining an air of elegance.
The show included luxurious oversized cardigan blazers paired with soft dresses and bikini-style tops layered beneath long blouses or solo under oversized jackets. Black dominated the color palette but was complemented by neutral tones such as chocolate and deep purple. Long-haired shearling fabrics added texture in unexpected hues like dusty mauve and celadon.
Celebrities including Kerry Washington, Uma Thurman, Lea Michele, Rose Byrne attended the event dressed in Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2025 designs rather than previewing pieces from his new fall collection. Despite this mix-up in seasons on display off-runway among guests’ attire choices; it highlighted how timeless Michael Kors’ fashion remains across collections.
