Patricio Campillo, a Mexican designer, made a remarkable debut at New York Fashion Week with a collection rooted in Mexican heritage.
His Spring/Summer 2025 show, inspired by the duality of calmness and eruption, drew from his meditation experiences near the Popocatépetl volcano.
Campillo presented garments that reflected the volcanic theme, featuring flowing fabrics in soft tones paired with structured pieces in earthy shades of ash and rust. His collection also highlighted unique artisanal techniques, including the use of oxidized silk, which added a distinct and sustainable edge to the garments.
Celebrating Mexican Craftsmanship
The collection paid tribute to Mexican craftsmanship, incorporating symbols from cockfighting traditions, such as intricate silver buttons and belt buckles shaped like roosters. Campillo’s commitment to sustainable fashion was evident throughout the show, focusing on creating pieces with minimal environmental impact while enhancing the lives of his artisans.
The show’s makeup, led by Marco Castro, complemented the collection’s narrative by incorporating subtle touches that reflected the heat and intensity of volcanic energy. Castro aimed to replicate the sensation of emerging from a Temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath ritual, enhancing the models’ skin with a dewy, glowing look that resonated with the collection’s natural elements.
