SPRING/SUMMER 2025
[ COUNTERPOINTS – BETWEEN OBJECTS, PEOPLE AND EMOTIONS ]
Paris Fashion Week Collection Presentation
Music is the silence between the notes.
The essence of RUOHAN’s Spring/Summer 2025 captures absence as eloquently as presence. It is an ode to the unspoken, a visual exploration of harmony and dissonance, where each garment becomes a note, every movement a phrase, and every silence a reflective pause. The collection is a meditation on contrast and coexistence, exploring the relationships between objects, structures, people, and emotions. It balances repetition and opposition, improvisation against classical formality, and the poetic tension between symmetry and asymmetry. Straight lines meet curves, and simplicity converses with complexity, creating a narrative that transcends fashion—an interplay of interactions.
The collection unfolds across three levels of Lafayette Anticipation, with 42 looks accompanied by 22 musicians and embodied by 21 models. The journey begins on the first level with the soft chimes and whispers of xylophones and harps, followed by the texture and rhythms of deeper timbres of cellos and violas on the second. The experience reaches its climax on the third level with the bright, unexpected brilliance of French horns, trumpets, and flutes.
The color palette mirrors this conceptual journey, starting with the stark contrast of black and white and evolving through soft hues of nude, sandy beige, and light brown before culminating in deep navy and luminous gold. Each color, like a note in a symphony, is carefully chosen to reflect the evolution of thought and form.
Silhouettes take inspiration from musical instruments, transforming into dynamic interpretations of the musical stave, exploring positive and negative space, harmony, and dissonance. Intricate pleating and unconventional draping evoke the complexity of a musical score, visually representing the invisible connections that bind us all.
Fabric choices range from matte black and white jersey to hand-pleated metallic-like linen, and from stave-lined printed cotton silk to water-soluble cashmere, forming a rich symphony of textures. Deep brown and deep navy denim add depth and contrast, balancing the collection’s fluidity with robust structure. Together, these fabrics create a tactile melody, much like the layers of Terry Riley’s “In C,” which plays throughout the show.
Accessories and leather goods are oversized, recalling childhood memories of carrying instrument cases. These exaggerated pieces challenge conventional notions of proportion and memory, echoing the collection’s theme of juxtaposing the tangible with the ephemeral.
As the lights shift in rhythm with the music and the models’ movements, RUOHAN’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection becomes more than just a series of garments. It is a meditative experience, inviting viewers to find beauty in the spaces between, to listen to the silence, and to perceive the unseen. The show concludes with a lingering sense of introspection, leaving behind not just a presentation of fashion, but a reflection on the delicate balance of chaos and order. It reminds us that in both fashion and music, it is not only the crescendos that move us, but the silences that allow us to feel, breathe, and dream.
