Burna Boy has been enlisted by the iconic design label Jean Paul Gaultier to choose his favorite vintage looks, which are being released on Friday, June 2, 2023.
According to the Gaultier house, it is the Nigerian singer’s first time working with a fashion house. The Gaultier house teased the project by throwing a party at its offices for Burna Boy’s fans before a May 20 concert in Paris that was attended by more than 40,000 people.
The two limited-edition designs, which come in four hues, draw influence from Burna Boy’s most recent album “Love, Damini”—particularly the heart-shaped accents and the red lenses.
Burna Boy also appeared in front of the camera for a Marcin Kempski-shot advertisement. He posed in a scene created by Daughter of Lama that nods to well-known music videos from the 1990s.
The sunglasses will be offered for sale at selected stores and on Jean Paul Gaultier’s website.
The “Dress Like Jean Paul” spring collection, which was recently released, was influenced by the founding designer’s Breton top, also known as a marinière and kilt. Florence Tétier, the creative director for Jean Paul Gaultier fashion, has been boosting the brand’s notoriety through collaborations with Lil Nas X, Melissa, and Ottolinger, campaigns with celebrities like Kylie Jenner, and more.
