Papa Oppong Announced As Finalist For The Fashion Trust US Awards

Ghanaian fashion illustrator and designer Papa Oppong has advanced to the final stage of the Fashion Trust US inaugural awards. The Fashion Trust US is a nonprofit initiative that discovers, funds, and develops young design talents to help them turn global brands. 

Winning his category, the Graduate Award, he will be given a grant worth $25,000. The other contestants are Margarita and Cristina Ng Ng, Max1111, Qiuyi Luo, and Taku Yhim.

Papa Oppong has worked with notable fashion brands in Africa, including Christie Brown, Studio 189, Nadrey Laurent, and Ophelia Crossland. He has also collaborated with Swarovski, a global-renowned crystal company. 

Other big-name companies Papa has worked with are West African fabric company Woodin, makeup giant MAC cosmetics, and Adidas. He was honored at the 2017 PANAFEST Youth Festival as one of 2 young people helping to promote creativity in Africa.

In 2015, Papa Oppong was selected as one of 7 designers for the Washington DC Fashion Foundation’s Incubator at Macy’s. He has also been named by CNN as one of the 15 young Africans remarketing the African continent. 

Currently residing in New York City, he holds an MFA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City.
