PUMA and Jefferson Osei Celebrate Ghana’s Football Culture with “Road to Unity” Collection
PUMA has teamed up with Ghanaian designer Jefferson Osei to unveil the Road to Unity collection, a tribute to Ghana’s rich football culture and its enduring place on the global sports stage.
Timed with Ghanaian Independence Day, this collaboration reimagines the national team’s jersey while celebrating themes of unity and togetherness.
At the heart of the collection is a bold reinterpretation of Ghana’s home kit, featuring a custom print by Ghanaian painter Daniel Alum Jasper. The jersey’s intricate design pays homage to Africa’s Gold Coast with a striking blend of Adinkra symbols—time-honored Ghanaian motifs representing values like understanding, cooperation, and resilience. In a captivating twist, the jersey transforms mid-match, revealing hidden symbols as players perspire, deepening its connection to Ghana’s heritage.
“My goal for this kit was to connect people from all Ghanaian ethnic tribes, both at home and in the diaspora, to bring back the love and unite the tribes as one,” Osei shares.
This vision is woven into every detail, with subtle nods to Ghana’s diverse cultures—including the Ewe, Hausa, Asante, Fante, Dagbani, and Ga communities.
Beyond the jersey, Road to Unity extends into lifestyle pieces that fuse tradition with modernity. The collection includes a revamped T7 tracksuit, a cropped longsleeve shirt with a jersey-style collar, and graphic tees and caps. The footwear highlight, a special-edition Easy Rider sneaker, boasts a vibrant red upper with yellow accents—an unmistakable nod to Ghana’s flag.
Adding a playful layer to the campaign, PUMA and Osei draw inspiration from Counters Ball, a nostalgic schoolyard game where Ghanaian children used bottle caps as playing tokens in an improvised football strategy game. This storytelling approach not only celebrates the nation’s football culture but also captures the essence of childhood passion and community spirit.
