The New York Fashion Week Fall 2022 may not have had all the big names from previous schedules, but that may actually be a good thing. That made way for more emerging designers to showcase their best crafts.
We have here a compilation of the best emerging designers of the New York Fashion Week Fall’s shows.
IN THE BLK
IN THE BLK is a collective of Black creatives in the global fashion industry who are dedicated to creating and expanding spaces for fellow Black designers. This collective serves as a networking concept for Black designers and creatives around the world.
Its first presentation was the Edelsteen collection from Third Crown, designed by couple Kofi and Kristen Essell. The second was “Heritage Bloodroot Collection – Into the Archives” from House of Aama, by mother and daughter duo Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka. Their last presentation was “Fights Reveal Futilities” from Khiry designed by Jameel Mohammed.
ELENA VELEZ
Elena Velez has quickly become known for her “aggressively delicate” designs. This designer makes her dresses from unusual materials. These materials include ship sails, parachutes fabrics, and laminated military canvas. These are reworked into daringly skin-baring dresses.
SAINT SINTRA
Saint Sintra is a ready-to-wear women’s fashion brand based in New York City. It makes its modern, streamlined dresses from organic fabrics, deadstock, and recycled materials. Sintra Martins, the designer behind this brand, presented her second-year runway collection at the New York Fashion Week 2022. Her style is presented in classic suiting and tailoring.
COMMISSION
Commission is also a group of three designers: Huy Luong, Dylan Cao, and Jin Kay. For their latest “Fast Riders, Slow Dancers” collection, this trio took inspiration from Americana and western dress. Since its inception in 2018, this is the group’s very first in-person offering on the official calendar.
DAUPHINETTE
A luxury outerwear brand that makes dresses from recycled leather and byproduct fur. The clothes are then given additional vintage and artisanal components. Founded by Olivia Cheng in 2018, Dauphinette presented its lineup for the first time on New York Fashion Week this year.
Dauphinette’s pieces are meshed well with baggy camo pants, jeans, and sturdier sweaters and outerwear where prints and drawings add the perfect quirk.
ZANKOV
Henry Zankov is a knitwear designer based out in New York, and he’s no stranger in the fashion world. For the first time being on the NYFW calendar, Zankov did a presentation at an intimate space. The brand’s latest collection presented at the NYFW 2022 took direct inspiration from the city’s subdued dusty pinks, browns, and unique geometric tiling and architecture.
