WAKE’s Melanistic EDITORIAL is part of a series that explores the concept of melanism and of living things that are dark in nature.Melanism is the over development of the dark-colored pigment melanin in the skin and is the opposite of albinism.
In this phase of the series the designer focuses on pseudo-melanism, also called abundism, which is another variant of pigmentation, characterised by dark spots or enlarged stripes in the skin.
This explains our choice of quilted African print and hide in its original state.
