Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, changes have started to happen to the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023 schedule. The SS23 LFW is originally slated to run from September 16 to September 20.
The British Fashion Council has confirmed that the fashion week can go on as slated but shows happening on the days of the queen’s funeral and the new king’s coronation will have to reschedule.
The BFC has also advised that brands with “non-essential” activities during the fashion week can put them on hold. Already, three fashion brands have pulled out of the 5-day event.
The first is Burberry. Its spokeswoman confirmed to Drapers that the brand’s “spring/summer 2023 runway show due to take place on Saturday 17 September in London will no longer go ahead.“
Raf Simons had a catwalk show which was due to happen on Friday, September 16. This show has since been canceled. “As the country enters a period of official mourning, we will pause during this time of great sadness“, a statement from the company read.
The third company to cancel its show is French luxury brand Claudie Pierlot. Its SS23 presentation was set to take place on Friday, 16 September has also been canceled. This show was supposed to happen at its London Marylebone flagship store. The collection will be showcased in Paris on 28 September.
As of now, all non-vital events that made up London Fashion Week have been put on hold. So there won’t be any afterparties or similar activities.
